戚昊楠: Creative technologist, designer, and photographer of Nanjing-origin, currently living in NYC, whose recent works dialogue with urbanization, its ecological foundation, and social fabrics in which humans affiliate with non-human species/objects, co-creating a biophilic and equitable future. His graphic works explore the aesthetic and narrative absurdity, often incorporating elements of object journalism, envolving encounters of seeing with those unseeing.
Haonan’s work has been featured in Vogue Italy and Print Magazine. He has been awarded GDUSA Graphic Design Awards, Monochrome Photography Awards Honorable Mention (professional), GDUSA Graphic Design Awards, and Graphis New Talent Silver Awards.

DIGITAL QIANG GARDEN

Qiang ethnicity is known as “people who live above the cloud.” Their ancestors migrated from northern border to where is now Sichuan Province. After the earthquake in 2008, Qiang faced serious liguistic and cultural extinctions. Rooted in the moutains, our residency seeks to document the beauty of Qiang culture and their natural surroundings, aiming to reveal their charisma in the digital era.

Residency in Summer, 2023.

ABSURDITY IS A LEGIT FUNCTION OF DESIGN

杀马特, or Smart, refers to a subculture that originated in China in the early 2000s. A group of young people who dress in a punk or goth style blend in Y2K, often with boldly colored hair, heavy makeup, defy the social norms and are sneered at by the public. This editorial contains my selected writings on the psychological and sociological factors that indulged in Smart’s formation.
